GeoZine · Privacy Policy
GeoZine has no accounts and no ad tracking. Our servers do not receive or store your photos, your locations, or the images you create.
1. Photos and location
- Photos: GeoZine uses the system photo picker, so the app only receives the one photo you choose. It reads the capture location and builds the image on your device. Neither your photo nor the finished image leaves your device unless you share it yourself.
- Photo library access: only if a photo carries no location and you allow it, GeoZine reads the capture location the library has on record for that one photo. It is used on your device only.
- Saving to your library: the finished image is written to your library only when you tap Save. No other photos are read.
- GeoZine only draws a layer on top of your photo. The original in your library is never modified.
2. Services contacted to get the map
Building the map needs public map and elevation data. A request contains only the tile numbers near the capture point, which tells the service roughly which few kilometers you are looking at. It contains no photo, no file name and no account information.
- OpenFreeMap: vector map data, sourced from OpenStreetMap contributors.
- AWS Terrain Tiles: public elevation data, used to draw contour lines.
- Apple: looking up a place name sends the capture point’s coordinates to Apple, and when you search for a place, the search term is handled by Apple Maps. Apple’s privacy policy applies.
3. Anonymous usage and crash statistics
GeoZine collects anonymous usage and crash statistics so we can tell which features are failing:
- We record only whether a feature succeeded or failed, a broad category of the failure, a duration range, and, for crashes, technical details (call stack, exception type, device model, OS version, app version).
- They do not include your photos, locations, place names or titles.
- A randomly generated device identifier is used. It is unrelated to your Apple Account, your name or your email.
- The data goes to an analytics service on Daylumen’s own domain (PostHog, relayed through e.daylumen.com). It is not used for ad targeting, not sold, and not combined with data from other apps.
- You can turn off “Anonymous usage statistics” in Settings at any time. Once off, nothing is sent.
4. This website
This website uses Google Analytics to count visits, relayed through Daylumen’s own domain (g.daylumen.com) with visitor IP addresses anonymized. It is used only to learn how many people visit and where they come from. The site uses no ad tracking.
The site also uses PostHog (relayed through e.daylumen.com) to see where visitors come from, whether the before and after slider on the home page was dragged, whether an email or in-page link was clicked, which section was reached, and which language version you are viewing. Only the events themselves are recorded: no typed input, no screen recording, no personal profiles, and nothing is sent when your browser has Do Not Track turned on.
5. Storage and deletion
The app’s data lives only on your device. Deleting the app deletes all local data. Images you saved to your library are yours to manage.
6. Children
The app is not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
7. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Any change that widens what data is collected will also be announced inside the app.
